Elegantly made, Seated Chanter with Bird speaks to the lives of the Pueblos ancestors, the Anasazi. Formed together, the figure and the bird balance each other. Gutierrez once said that his pottery inspired by the Anasazi people represented a time when life was simple and balanced. Many Anasazi ceramics were, and still are, produced in gray or white, which were then fired in an oxygen-reduced flame. The descendants of the Anasazi people still practice many of the cultural traditions including the religion. These aspects of the culture are designed to maintain a harmonious relationship with nature that bring about a good, healthy and successful life.
