Although not a lot is known about Yoshida’s Woods pieces, the series was produced during a time where he was influenced by rural areas in Japan. Most of his work surrounded the themes of cultural traditions, symbolic pieces of nature and abstract forms. Throughout the piece, the imagery of the woods is represented through the black and blue lines, trunk rings and stamped, square images of bark. Yoshida plays on depth in this piece, juxtaposing the different images on top and behind each other, as well as blocking off parts of the landscape with different colors. Here, Yoshida is directly commenting on the simplicity and beauty of the land.
