Hong Bo was born in Tianjin in 1923.  Specializing in woodblock printing, he studied Western Painting at the Peking School of Arts in 1943.  He then became a lecturer at the Central Academy for the Fine Arts, and later became secretary of the Party Committee.  He died in 1985.
