Christine Borland was born in 1965 in Darvel, Ayrshire, Scotland. She studied Environmental Art at the Glasgow School of Art and completed an MA at the University of Ulster in 1988.  She received a position at the Glenfiddich Artist in Residence Programme in 2004, and in 2012 she was appointed as a professor at the University of Northumbria’s Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.  There, she also heads the Institute of Contemporary Art in Newcastle.
