Jil Evans was born in 1958. She grew up between Gary, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois. Evans received her MFA in painting from Stanford University in the 1980s, after receiving her MA in painting from the University of Iowa, and her BFA from Calvin College. During the 1990s, Evans spent time living in England, which led her to begin studying art in museums as part of her artistic practice.
Since receiving her MFA, Evans has taught, published, and lectured on abstract painting. Evans’s art deals with the idea of metamorphosis, abstracting imagery from photographs she has taken. Her work has also been inspired by the landscape she saw growing up. Evans is a founder and member of Form+Content Gallery, and is represented by Kolman & Pryor Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her work can be found in collections worldwide.
