Harold Boyd was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1938. He attended a technical high school there before attending the University of Kansas, where he received both a bachelor’s degree and MFA in Art. He joined the Illinois State University’s faculty in the fall of 1965, and headed the university’s efforts to establish a graduate art program in the 1970s. Upon his arrival at ISU, he also opened a private studio, where he has continued to work following his retirement in 2000.
