George Burk was born in the late 1930s in Goshen, Indiana.  As a child, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.  He began studying art in high school, and after graduating obtained his B.F.A. at the Fort Wayne Art School before obtaining a master’s degree at Indiana University.  

After obtaining his master’s degree, Burk began teaching studio art and art history at Louisiana State University, where he remained for fifty years.  During this time he also curated and coordinated exhibits at LSU, The Kansas City Art Institute, Nasson College, the University of New Hampshire, and the University of Southern Maine, and studied for three years in Italy.  He passed away on July 20, 2017.
