revor Allen was born in 1939 in Portsmouth. After serving in the Royal Anglian Regiment, Allen went to study at the Camberwell School of Arts from 1960 until 1964. During this time he also worked with Michael Rothenstein in Great Bardfield, Essex. On top of all this, he also worked as a studio printer with Editions Alecto. Eventually he would go to work on his Tahitian blocks with the Academician Philip Sutton.

In 1964, Allen set up his own print studio in Balham while also teaching at a handful of art colleges such as Ravensbourne in Kent and Brighton. Beginning in 1971, however, Allen taught full-time at Goldsmiths College in London; aside from a one-year sabbatical between 1985 until 1986, Allen remained teaching on at least a part-time basis until his full retirement in 1996. Allen contributed to the BBC Series Artists in Print, as well as The Complete Printmaker, published in 1975. His work can be found in a number of institutions across the United Kingdom and the United States. He passed away in 2008.
