Roberto Bañuelos is a potter from Mata Ortiz. He and his wife Angela work together to create their works. The two learned to make pottery in 1988 from Angela’s sisters Rosa Irene and Gloria Isela Lopez, both of whom learned from their brother-in-law Reynaldo Quezada. Angela forms, sands, and polishes their pots, and Roberto is responsible for the designs, which are usually created by layering paint. Usually, he starts by splattering paint on the pot and then moves on to painting various Mimbres designs such as fish, lizards, and fantasy creatures. Although the couple works together, Roberto is usually the one to sign the pots.
