Eve Clendenin was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1900. Clendenin studied at Oxford and the Sorbonne, then continued at the Royal Academy in London. In addition, she studied at the Banff School of Art in Alberta before moving to New York and Provincetown in the 1940s and 50s. During this time, Clendenin studied primarily under Hans Hofmann. Clendenin was a member of the American Abstract Artists group for many years, and even showed with the group in Tokyo in 1955. Although best known as a painter in oils and watercolor, Clendenin also worked as a printmaker. In the 1950s, particularly, she began to produce original relief prints. Her works are held in a number of institutions across the United States.
