Rini Yun Keagy is a Twin Cities based artists best known for film and moving image pieces. Her work focuses on race and labor, as well as sites of historical and psychosocial trauma. She earned her MFA in Film & Media Arts from Temple University, and her BA in Geography from UC Berkeley. Keagy taught film studies and production courses at University of the Arts in Philadelphia, University of California at Santa Cruz, and Carleton College in Minnesota.
She has been greatly influenced by her experience growing up in farming communities, and her marginalized identity as the daughter of a Guatemalan-born father and Korean-born mother. She came to the United States at the age of six, when her family fled Guatemala during the Guatemalan war. They settled in central California, but when her parents later separated Keagy moved with her father to southern Colorado, where he continues to live and farm. Keagy continues to use her father’s work as a source of inspiration, although the project she is creating based around the farm has yet to be completed.
