Stuart Abelman was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is a contemporary artist with a working studio and gallery in Van Nuys, California. He has been blowing glass for over four decades, and frequently holds shows. He received his BFA in painting and sculpture from Carnegie-Mellon University before going on to receive his MFA in glass from UCLA. During this time, he simultaneously worked as a teaching assistant and ran the glass department at El Camino College. Abelman particpated in the new art glass movement that took place in the United States in the mid-1960s. In 1977 he started his own company, Abelman Art Glass, which is still very active today.
Abelman is an exceptional and successful craftsman, and master glassblower, whose works have been sold and collected around the world. Many of his pieces have been inspired by nature, although he is well-known for his cups and clowns as well. Abelman is still an active glassblower, holding shows at his gallery in California and often traveling for sales and shows as well. He is very involved on multiple social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, where he posts about events and his newest creations. Abelman continues to be one of the most beloved and collected glassblowers of the modern era.
